The Legacy of Shiva Musicals: Crafting Musical Instruments Since 1982
Music has the power to transcend boundaries and connect people across cultures and generations. For decades, Shiva Musicals has been at the heart of this connection, offering high-quality musical instruments to passionate musicians, from beginners to professionals. But how did this iconic brand begin? Let’s take a look at the journey through the rich history of Shiva Musicals.
Shiva Musicals was founded in 1982 by C. Natarajan, a passionate musician, after his workplace in Balepet (musical shop) was shut down abruptly. With more than 20 years of experience at his previous workplace, he started a small workshop for repairing the instruments in Malleshwaram. After some time, they started crafting their own Veena, Thamburi and Harmonium by hand, paying meticulous attention to detail and sound quality.
Like every great company, Shiva Musicals faced its share of challenges in the early days. As C. Natarajan only had experience in manufacturing and repairing musical instruments, he worked tirelessly to build the shop’s reputation. As there were a lot of families in Malleshwaram, who were very much interested in musical instruments, word of mouth played a crucial role in its growth, as it served many popular musicians of South, so satisfied customers recommended Shiva Musicals to other musicians.
The breakthrough came when music legends like RK Suryanarayan, RK Srikantan, S Krishnamurthy, L Subramaniam and Shankar Raman, quoted this shop as “Paradise of instruments”. Their line of instruments such as Veena, Harmonium, Tabala, Sitar and Thamburi, quickly became a favorite among professional musicians. These instrument’s blend of craftsmanship, tone, and affordability, solidified Shiva Musical’s position in the market.
Shiva Musicals has gained reputed recognitions as well, being globally appreciated. Musicians from all over the world appreciated the brand’s dedication to excellence, when C. Natarajan and his son Vinod made the world’s biggest tanpura out of a single log and entered “Limca Book of Records”, making Shiva Musicals a go-to choice for performers, composers, and music teachers alike.
In recent years, Shiva Musicals has also made efforts to adopt sustainable practices. With growing awareness about the environmental impact of instrument production, the company now focuses on sourcing eco-friendly materials and minimizing waste during manufacturing. This commitment to sustainability reflects Shiva Musicals’ desire to not only produce great instruments but also contribute positively to the environment.
As Shiva Musicals continues to grow, it remains committed to its original mission: to provide musicians with instruments that inspire creativity and passion. Whether it’s a beginner picking up their first instrument or a seasoned performer looking for the perfect sound, Shiva Musicals continues to be a trusted partner in every musician’s journey.
